Quoi de Neuf (Sunday)

Down to breakfast a little earlier than on Saturday, and into a bit of a con-com dilemma. What do you do when one of your singing Guests of Honour has lost her voice. We didn't have a good answer, so there was a lot of finger-crossing-thumb-pressing-hoping going on behind the scenes...

Jackie's workshop expanded to fill the first set slot of the morning, and we were treated to a few song performances that had been worked on. Peter's creepily enhanced "Steerpike" was particularly memorable.

Paul had the first actual set of the day; an excellent mix of prepared tracks and live performance.

Jackie's second set, straight after lunch, was "Aftermath!", a musical story performance for six voices, which seemed to be very well received, and which I enjoyed a lot. With a bit of luck (and a couple of short re-takes after the closing ceremony) it may even turn into a CD or DVD. I hope so. It was followed by another Auction slot, and then the Sams Awards. One song won in two categories (which made the end-of-Con spot a bit easier). Cecilia Eng's voice was not back to strength, so a few strong performers were drafted in to provide backing for her accompaniment. I ended up among them half-way through. It was an interesting challenge. I hope we all managed at least well enough. Sometimes it was hard to judge from up front. The Sams concert and closing ceremony were rather simpler.

We delayed tech tear-down long enough to get the couple of short re-takes that the recording of "Aftermath!" needed, but it then went with its customary smoothness.

We had the customary Con-com post-con meal at the now traditional place. After we got back I sat through a couple of rounds of the evening circle, and went to bed fairly early.
