With the approach of the 53rd anniversary of something or other, things don't seem to be going the way I thought they would be by now. Looking more like 63 and feeling more like 73. I've had pain in my leg for the past 2 days so I have been using my cane. Unfortunately when I use my cane it also causes pain in my upper hip, causing even more pain. So what to do now, see the doctor next week or replace the 2 tires on my car that may explode at any minute? Tough decision since I can only afford one. So what did I decide? Thought I'd go to the bar and throw back a few.
DJ was having a birthday celebration this weekend at the new Dickies. (Dickies closed down his small, somewhat seedy little establishment in Cal. City and opened a new place on this side of the line. It's about 4 times as big and nice and clean inside. It also has a kitchen and a backroom for karoake and eventually drag shows and the like. All in all an very nice improvement and a gay bar nearby. Hopefully it will stay a nice place.)
So I thought I"d stop by, sing a few songs and help celebrate. I guess I missed the memo that said tonight was Noah's Ark night. Nearly everyone who entered the karaoke room arrived 2 by 2: he & he, she & she, he & she, he/she & and he/she. I didn't know a single soul at the birthday table, so I found a small table by myself. Soon the boyfriend of the karaoke dj asked if the party he invited could join me at my table. Since the place was very crowded, I obliged. To my surprise the party of guests he brought were 4 middle-aged straight ladies. Boy, was I the bald-headed step child tonight. Anyway I order a beer from Simone, a stately black drag queen every bit of 7 feet tall even in small heels. It came my turn to sing and I did my favorite Josh Groban tune. Everyone seemd to like it. It made me feel good. When DJ isn't there singing, then I am the best singer and mostly the crowd favorite. Then DJ enteres from the kitchen. (It turns out his big celebration was last night because he works the kitchen on Saturday.) Anyway he begins singing and imediately the crowd treats him like a rock star. He is very good, so it is deserving. When it came time to sing my 3rd song, turns out he decided to harmonize with me from the kitchen. The harmonies sounded great, but it was supposed to be my song. It was now midnight and the room filling with smoke so I decided to leave. As I was walking out, a couple was coming in with birthday cake.
Just a week ago I had the opportunity to babysit with E. Althought she was having a war of wills with mommy, we seemed to hit it off. I watched her play several online computer games. She was quite good. In fact, her mousing skills at playing online games was the same as mine. (That says something about one of us.) To my utter amazement, when the computer prompted the player to enter a name, without flinching she immediately typed in- E - L- I - N - O - R then the enter key.. Wow, and she's just over 3 years old. (My almost 5 year old nephew can't spell his name. It's Danny.) As I compare both Saturday nights, I enjoyed last Saturday more.
Oh, I forgot to mention. I have been patronizing the annual Tuxedo sale for many, many years. I have several tuxes, formal shirts, shoes, etc. Today was the first time in all those years that I could not find anything I wanted. Very disappointing.
Heading off to bed now. I took an Ibuprofin with Vicodin. Hopefully it will help with the pain.
