Possibly NSFW. On account of the hilarity

First I read How a Fish Almost Destroyed My Childhood. Which was by turns horrifying (really. I am not kidding. if you are upset by cartoon depictions and textual descriptions of violence you may want to avoid this) and also gut-bustingly funny. It's a mix of "what I put my parents through" and "my understanding of the world when I was small goes horribly wrong." (Where "I" is the author, not me. I wasn't quite like that. Just - close.)

So of course after that I had to start going through the archives. Here are a few of my favorites:

Cake Versus Pie: A Scientific Approach. Amply illustrated! And (unlike the fish story) without any traumatic stories of childhood.

Um.

Have to say that, convincing though that may be, I still prefer cake. When I think pie I think soggy crust and weird treatments of fruit, rather than "chocolate silk." Now I wish I was still a mere mile from the Denver Diner. *sob*

Anyway.

Am Adult, which has one of the best opening lines of all time: "When I woke up this morning, my house smelled like death and sadness."

And in the interest of saving the best for last, I leave you with Dinosaur, about an encounter with a goose. With a wonderful cartoon illustrating the author's first encounter with geese as a child.

Having already been put into a laughing-uncontrollably state of mind by all the previous reading, this one rendered me completely helpless. The cartoon alone would have done it, but there was more! So much more! If my chair did not have arms, I would have fallen off. As it was, I just sort of collapsed, barely able to see because of the water streaming from my eyes (dude my contacts fogged up. WTF), and I was afraid to leave my office for several minutes because I could not stop giggling.

fun, internet
