Hello, all you fine reccers!

We've had some staffing changes here at hpthemes, and want to let you know about them.

Sadly, purpledodah and werewolfsfan are no longer able to serve as Moderators for this community. We thank them mightily for their work to keep the community up and running in the immediate aftermath of jamie27's "retirement", and wish them much luck and love ( Read more... )

Hi, hogwartshoney.

Thanks so much for raising this issue. You're right; the pairings are overwhelmingly slashtastic. That's most probably because the social circles most of the mods move in are slashy - if I post something in my personal LJ about my work here, it's likely that other slashers, but not het-shippers, will read and go off to look at the community. I know that when Jaime set up the comm, she really did make an effort to spread the word, but since then... Well, I know that I haven't done much to promote the community since I started modding in May.

I'm writing a general post to the community; I'll include a request that people pimp on their own journals, but also to expand our presence by pimping to the "mainstream" comms on LJ, etc. Because the fics that are recc'd are the favorites of our members, we will need new members in order to balance out the type of fics that get recc'd, you know?

That said, the mods have consistently, since the beginning, made an effort not to let themes seem to focus on a single character and pairing; we try to keep them as broad as possible. So, although it is up to us mods to pimp HPThemes around to other communities, it is up to the membership to come up with the recs. Every single rec we have is there because someone recc'd it in a comment. Unlike many rec comms, we haven't striven for balance, but take all recs that come - so we do try to make it so that no type of pairing will be left out by the theme in question.

Thanks for the comment! We appreciate it.

PS- bet you didn't expect THREE responses to your comment, did you?
