Trevelyan was preceeded down the long corridor to the Great Hall by the sharp tap of his cane against the castle flagstones. Entering the Great Hall, he gave Slughorn a curt nod. "Good afternoon, Slughorn." His voice travelled well in the cavernous room.
Although his limp was ovious, it did not seem to detract from his ability to stride with purpose, as he made his way over to a chair. Taking a seat, he glanced unnecessarily around the room. "It would appear that I am the first to arrive."

"Ah, Aurelius! Good to see you back. I trust you had a good Summer?"

He offered the other man some wine

"Would you care for a drop? It's an excellent little Shiraz from South Africa; Jacob Mueller, a friend of mine, owns a vineyard out there"

"I will have a drop, thank you." He nodded his assent, and spoke in a dry tone. "Anything to ease one back into a new term, hmm?" He smiled thinly. "My summer was most productive, thank you for enquiring. Spent most of it in Polynesia studying tribal fetishes. I am certain that you too enjoyed yourself?"

Slughorn conjured up another goblet, and poured a healthy measure for his companion.

"Oh, quite" he replied "I got an invitation to go on a Transatlantic cruise. Old-style sea-crossings on a a rebuilt Muggle steam-ship. Spectacularly luxurious, and a damn sight comfier than a broom, too."

"That sounds most relaxing." Aurelius nodded. "Excellent. So, what is the intake looking like this year? More of the Potter-Weasley brood if I am not mistaken..."

"Ah, my friend" Slugorn replied, with a twinkle in his eye "We have, as usual, the scions of some of the great Wizarding families of our time. Potters, Weasleys, even a new Malfoy."

He leaned towards Trevelyan

"And we've also got a Snape. Distant cousin of Severus Snape as I understand it, no blood-link to Salazar, but there's certain to be talent, there."

Leaning back, he took another sip of wine, and smiled

"I've got a feeling about this year, Aurelius. The potential is easily on a par with our 1991 intake, and we all know how *that* crowd turned out. This year, the possibilities will be limitless"
