Three weeks earlier

School had ended a few days ago for Michael, and he was making the most of his new-found freedom by playing through the video games that he hadn't been allowed to play during term-time. His younger brother Nathan was over at his friends' house, so he wasn't bugging Michael for once, and his mum was busy gardening, so he was surprised when he heard his name shouted up the stairs.
"Mike!" It was his mum's voice.
Michael jumped, sending the car on the screen crashing into a wall. He grimaced and set it back on the track with a flick of his wrist.
"I'll come down in a second, Mum!"
There was no reply, but he heard footsteps come up the stairs. Michael sighed, paused the game, and opened his door to see his mum with an odd look on her face.
"There's a man called Professor Flitwick here to see you," she told him. "He says that he's from a school called Hogwarts. I told his that you already have a place at another school, but he insisted that he needed to talk to you."
Michael didn't know what to say, but followed his mum downstairs.
