Alec sat by the fireplace, staring at the flames when Jace entered the library.
“Alec, can we talk?” Jace’s voice broke the silence.
Alec looked up in surprise. Tears dotted his blue eyes. Jace was quick to catch sight of them before he wiped them away.
“Alec, what’s happened?” Jace said, genuinely concerned.
“I told Magnus the truth. It was the right thing to do but it ended rather badly.” Alec’s reply was barely audible.
“He didn’t take it well then?” Jace inquired.
“No… I think he’s left me.”
Alec’s distraught whisper frightened Jace more than any demon ever could.
