Who: Dora and Remus Lupin, and everyone who shows up at their house. Friends, family...
What: Renewal of the Lupins marriage vows.
When:
hpsixwords timeline, Dec. 15
Where: Cornwall, the rebuilt house where the cottage used to be.
Why: Because so very few people were there, witnessing and celebrating with them the first time around. Which must be remedied!
Tonks grinned at her
white-clad image in the mirror. So... that was it! Second time around... seemed even more fun (possibly because there were more people downstairs than the five or six the previous time...
She ran her part in her mind. This time, they would be just saying the words to each other, no official; so she had to have her questions well memorised...
While recalling the list, her memory flitted back to the first marriage... in a way, a year and a half ago; in another, two decades earlier...
"Do you, Nymphadora Tonks..."
Tonks glared as usual, but wouldn't dream of interrupting, so the old man who'd known her since she was born met her flashing eyes levelly and continued blandly
"... take Remus John Lupin--"
Now this part turned her look from a glare to positive beaming!
"... to be your lawfully wedded husband--"
She stole a look sideways (and up) and met his own sparkling eyes for the briefest of moments. He looked still confused, still the tiniest bit doubtful if it was a good thing... but glad, that much she wasn't fooling herself about.
"... for better or for worse--"
And whatever his wishes or hers, this stupid war was likely to bring even more of the latter, so they had to make sure they gave a lot of the former to each other, right?
"... in illness and health--"
Now there was the hitch. In his eyes.
Lycanthropy.
As if it mattered, as if it could matter, with a man such as him!!! He shone like a vial filled with light, good and kind and clever and... everything!
It mattered not to her. Just not at all.
"... to love and to obey--"
Well, the first part completely, the other... mostly. Usually, she would. On the whole.
"... until death does you part?"
And beyond.
"I do."
She smiled. Those things were still true. They'd always be. And in a bit she would go downstairs and repeat that before her friends... their friends. Their family. Who couldn't be there for her first affirmation, but were here today.
She looked down at the
lovely bouquet that Mia had sent her in the morning, then very gently plucked a single petal and carefully placed it before the mirror.
For the friends who couldn't make it this time. Kingsley. Moody. She didn't think they were exactly watching, she had no memory of something like that when she returned, but if they were... They were in her heart.
She met her own eyes again, then heard the clock start chiming. "It's show-time, folks!"
