Severus blinked. He was alone, in his old bedroom at Spinner’s End, yet he could not remember how he had come to be here. He supposed he had been transferred from Hogwarts or St. Mungo’s, though it was all a blur.
He sat up. Things could be worse. He was alive, and lucky enough to have some privacy. He looked around the room. It was neat, peaceful; there was the print of Morgana gathering the bezoar that he so liked, and there were the journals on Potion making that he had not yet had a chance to read. Perhaps he would look through them during his convalescence.
A sudden noise from downstairs attracted his attention. He stood up. In the painting, Morgana muttered something about the distraction. Severus strained to listen -
“Horrible, just horrible, all these ridiculous books - ” a man said. Severus’ eyes narrowed. Who was this Philistine, and what was he doing here?
“It just needs some remodeling. The parlour would look charming with that
sunshine-yellow wallpaper...”
“Whatever happened to the nutter who used to live here, anyway?”
The woman sounded nervous. “He *died,* remember?”
Severus’ mouth dropped open. *Died?* And - these bumbling idiots were moving into *his* house?
