Summary: Rose Granger-Weasley captures the ghostly Shade of the man who had murdered her mother; the former dark wizard, Draco Malfoy. She wishes for revenge upon him. He offers her long-anticipated answers instead.
He was obviously lying.
"She never-"
"I assure you, she did," he interrupted. "Your mother wished for an exciting adventure, to be well-loved, and to die happy. I gave her those wishes. "
Rose stared at the Shade that had been Draco Malfoy with pity. Clearly, its inability to find peace had finally broken whatever consciousness it had retained.
"You’re insane. "
"Not at all, I assure you. "
She raised her wand again, pointed at him, and noted her hand was trembling.
"Why would she? "
Assuming she believed him, that was the real question, wasn’t it?
"Haven’t figured it out yet, hmm? " He ran his pale, elegant hands down his form. "Perhaps you’re not like her at all. " He took in her measure then. "No, you’re more like that idiot Weasel. It’s her flame burning inside you, but his myopia holding you back. " He sighed, disappointed. "Very well. "
He smiled at her then, parting his lips.
Canines, razor-thin and needle-sharp flashed in the moonlight.
Vampire.
"B-b-but you’re fading-"
"Lack of blood, " he admitted with a shrug.
"You tricked Mother! " Now she knew what had really happened to Hermione Granger-Weasley; she’d been seduced by a Vampire! "You used your powers to take what you wanted. "
"Don’t we all, " he said with a chuckle. "And since we’re on the subject of taking what I want... " He kicked the salt line aside and stepped out of it with a quick backward move. "Purity is not always a benefit, pet. Kosher salt has no iodine in it. "
Rose gaped at the Vampire in horror, and that was her mistake.
Second rule of Auror training: Never look them in the eye.
"Now, drop your wand for me, little Granger, " Malfoy whispered, mesmerizing her as he approached and took her in his arms, "and let’s talk about your wishes. "
THE END.
