Minerva had always heard the whispers about the mist that surrounded Hogwarts each Halloween. They said that if you stared long enough, you’d see students long gone. Others murmured that it was nothing, only your imagination running wild.
Each year she’d stared at the mist, hoping that this year would be the one when she would see someone that she knew. It had been many years, and she’d never seen anyone, and as she stepped outside and looked at the mist, she knew it wouldn't be any different this time.
She gave a sigh, and was turning away, when she heard laughter. She turned back thinking that it was just some students, but there before her eyes were a young Remus and Sirius playing. She felt her eyes water and smiled as they passed by her, playing a game of tag.
"Minerva."
She looked up when she heard her name. She felt a tear slip down her cheek when she saw Severus sitting by a tree reading and Lily sitting next to him with a quill in her hand.
"Come and sit with us."
They said that if you stared long enough at the mist, you’d see students long gone.
