Summary: A Samhain visit to the graveyard at Godric's Hollow.
Notes: Real life badly interfered with my drabble-writing. I hope you will still find some enjoyment in it. Happy Halloween to all!
Samhain: fog, gifts and some love.
The village nearly disappeared under the thick white fog.
For a moment they stood, deciding their way, the silence only broken by the piercing shrieks of a fox. When they reached the graveyard, the fog had penetrated their clothes. Wil shivered, uncertain if it was for the cold or the misty gloom of the yard.
Minerva seemed undeterred, walking briskly, while the tombstones emerged out of the fog. Soon they stood at Lilly and James' grave, with its white stone.
"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death," Wil read. Twenty-one years old, both of them. She had known it, but standing here, the loss overtook her. Minerva searched for her hand; she grasped it, tears falling from her cheeks.
They stood for a few minutes, then bent to leave their gifts for the dead - pie, grapes, and a bottle of firewhisky. The foxes and vagabonds would have a feast, Wil thought.
Back in Minerva's rooms, warmed by tea and firewhisky, she stretched out on the sofa, joined by Minerva. They lay in silence, softly caressing each other.
"Fine tradition, Samhain," Wil said. "Even when they'll have none of it, we still pay them our love and respect."
Minerva nodded into her chest.
