Character: Narcissa
Rating: G
Summary: She could feel eyes watching her.
It was shortly after Lucius and Draco were taken to Azkaban that Narcissa first felt the presence of the ghost. She was alone. She knew she was alone. The squibs who cooked and cleaned did not live at the manor.
Yet she could feel eyes watching her. Aurors had dismantled many of the manor's security measures but enough remained intact that no person or creature could have entered without her knowledge. However, she searched room by room, cellar to attic.
There was nothing to be found but unpleasant memories. Voldemort had made Malfoy Manor his headquarters and Narcissa still felt the terror and hopelessness of those dark years.
She searched the manor twice more in the weeks that followed but found nothing. The unnerving presence grew stronger. She would look up from writing in her journal, certain she was watched. She would wake in the night, and never see who had woken her.
She seriously considered boarding up the manor and waiting out her husband and son's sentences someplace warm and lively, but she concluded that she owed it to Lucius and Draco - and to herself - to be strong. No ghost was going to drive Narcissa out of her home.
