Challenge: #221, ‘demand a rewrite’
Characters/pairings: Dumbledore, Tom Riddle, mentions others
A/N: This takes place as young man! Tom Riddle is leaving Hogwarts after asking Dumbledore for a job, and therefore, technically, takes place seconds after a canon scene, if you want to split hairs. And - SPLAT! XD
Dumbledore watched his former student leave. There was something alarming about Tom. The - fierceness that had always lain just below the surface had developed, in a rather disturbing way. And yet, Tom had such potential -
A strange sound jarred him. Dumbledore looked up. A Cadillac soared through the air - Dumbledore recognized it as Morton Graves’ - before it suddenly gave a great lurch...
It crashed on the path. Graves was fortunate enough to grab his broomstick and fly from the car.
Tom Riddle, who must have been very lost in thought, was not so lucky.
Dumbledore himself arranged the funeral.

Characters/pairings: Hermione, Ron, Crookshanks, Scabbers
A/N: Cats are wonderful, for many reasons. *hugs cat*
“He’s gorgeous, isn’t - ”
Crookshanks suddenly hissed, and leapt from Hermione’s arms.
“CROOKSHANKS, NO!”
But it was too late. The cat must have smelled Scabbers. He leapt onto Ron’s head -
“NO! SCABBERS!”
- And pulled the rat from Ron’s pocket.
There was a terrified squeak, and then Scabbers was no more.
“Hermione!”
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know,” Hermione said, in a trembling voice. She grabbed Crookshanks and marched right back into the menagerie.
“Excuse me? I’m sorry, but this isn’t going to work out - he just killed my best friend’s rat...”
The witch sighed and put Crookshanks back in his cage.
