i will make two assumptions..
1. You are a college student.
2. Youre either a theatre or lit major..

noone else reads enough Checkov to be inspired to do much of anything by it.

Alas, wrong on both counts...

1. (Deeply pretentious) high school senior
2. (Going to be) majoring in chemical engineering and music

I'm just a geek :D Really, though, the short story is one of the more lovely and (at least where I'm in school) underappreciated arts, and Chekhov is so brilliantly good at it, and since this is part of a desperate attempt to improve my (pretty terrible) fiction skills, I figure borrowing stylistically from the best is (at least) not a bad way to go.

And, as far as I'm concerned, Chekhov was exceedingly skilled with realism in his short stories and plays :)
