"Darling, this is delicious," said Tom, drinking his cabbage soup. "Simply phenomenal! I never knew you were such a talented cook."
Every supper, when he first tasted his soup, Tom would grimace and complain that he missed the manor chef. But after a few spoonfuls, his dark eyes would cloud, and he'd start raving over the meal--every bite is better than the last!--until he was kissing her, soup forgotten, and running his fingers through her lank, dull hair.
"Thanks, Tom." Merope smiled, basking in the illusion's warmth. No one had ever called her talented before. "Want more soup?"
