Her eyes closed against the vision that came unbidden, as it always did, from the depths of her memory. The feel of his hands closing over her arms, pulling her to him roughly. His lips slanted over her own claiming them, claiming her, as his own. He tasted of firewhiskey, cigarettes, and chocolate, a flavor that even now her body yearned to taste again. He had left her then, mortified that he had forgotten himself in a moment of weakness and desire. And yet, she would never forget, that night when, in that one brief shining moment, he was hers.

Regret, was normally something alien to her, a word, an emotion that others had that she didn’t understand. She had known it once, before the death and the obsession took hold. Long before she chose to follow a creature that was less sane than her. Years in Azkaban had frozen all regrets, born away by the madness. And yet, the memory of those eyes so filled with hate, as he stumbled, haunted her. Those eyes, whose color mirrored her own disappearing forever, struck by her curse, and followed by her laughter. For the first time in years Bella knew regret.
