Remembralls were something of a craze at Hogwarts in the seventies. For Potter his was an alternative to the Snitch for something to chuck up in the air and show off his catching skills to Evans - less likely to fly away, but with equal risky intrigue for being made of glass.
Certain Gryffindors - those particularly Students-from-other-houses-ist - claimed that lions alone should be allowed to own them, as the red they turned was the colour of their house, and no one else's.
They were always turning red in Regulus's honour - the boy his housemates, teachers and brother, frequently forgot the existence of.
