The sun had shone bright that summer. Had a sky ever been so blue as the sky was then? She did not think so. Danger lacing the air, mingling with the scent of the cherry blossoms...the May of her sixth year. Life had been intense. Love had been too.
“Mummy, mummy!” A small hand tugged at her skirts. “Jamie’s stolen my puffskein again, tell him to give it back!”
“Give the puffskein back to your sister, Jamie,” she said, not removing her gaze from the window. Cherry blossom covered the garden.
The washing up was done. Now for the putting-away.
