It was no secret that Severus Snape was obsessed. But the reason for the obsession, that was the secret. His peers often wondered. Was it the beauty of the finished product? The way the colours swirled together; red hues blending with blues in a hypnotic pirouette?
No. It was the power. The taking of initial meaningless rubble, transforming it, and presenting it, lovingly, with a reason for existence. It was his chance to successfully play God.
Because of this “playacting” he could ignore the sniggers, “Snivellus…in love with his potions…” despite the ring of truth in those hastily scattered words.
