Yet after his injury, Bill started noticing how his mother warmed Fleur’s frosty manner, while Fleur doused his mother's rages.
It wasn’t until the following Christmas, when his mum unwrapped ‘Celestina Warbeck’s Greatest Hits', and Fleur opened a silver-grey jumper knitted in fine soft wool, and the pair of them hugged with tears in their eyes, that Bill remembered that fire and ice combined to make water.
