It finally began to rain as the small crowd dispersed. There hadn't been many present, as they'd lived in relative solitude most of Hagrid’s life. There was a few vaguely familiar woodsmen, heads bowed low. Some wizards, dressed in billowing black robes, also came to pay their respects. Hagrid only really knew Dumbledore, who was kind enough to accompany him.
All alone, Hagrid knelt down beside his father's grave. After several silent minutes, Dumbledore laid a hand on his shoulder. Hagrid’s fingers sank slightly into the freshly filled dirt as he pushed himself up to leave with his new guardian.

Hagrid was walking through the Forbidden Forest one afternoon when he heard a strange, sharp cry in the distance. In a nearby clearing, he found a young hippogriff in the stream, its foot stuck in a sunken beaver dam.
Hagrid moved forward slowly. Despite its obvious pain, the hippogriff was skeptical, hesitating before bowing back.
When the beast was free, it knelt down in gratitude. Feeling brave, Hagrid climbed onto its back and it leapt into the air. He grinned broadly as the fresh autumn breeze whipped through his hair. It was the perfect pick-me-up after a horrid Potions exam.
Title: Roots
Word Count: 100, per MSWord
Characters: Hagrid
House: Hufflepuff
Notes: Wood
Hagrid and his father lived under the strong, arching branches of the oldest oak tree in the forest. Its roots' protective reach stretched further with every year, causing the soil around Hagrid's childhood home to become shallow and hard. This is where he learned to walk, speak, read, write, fish, sing.
Hagrid was twelve when he was transplanted to Hogwarts. Six years later, he returns to the place of his childhood. Thick vines have strangled the tree. The ground remains rigid.
Hagrid is tall, strong as the wise oak. As Caretaker and Groundskeeper, his roots grow deep with Hogwarts now.
