The moon sets him on fire.
He knows how others regard that celestial body. They see serenity, comfort, a welcoming beacon. All he knows is the burning madness it brings about with its face turned fully towards the Earth, freeing the monster within.
On fire, he runs, seeking destruction, oblivion, blood tainting his teeth and hands. Others ran by him for a time, but the remaining one was the black dog. Able to fight him, able to stand by him until the sun rises again, dousing the burning madness in his soul.
In sunlight, with him, fire no longer burns.
