Professor Dumbledore calmly combed his hands through his long beard, causing a small shower of pine needles and twigs to shower to the forest floor. It was an futile effort, because the trees above him were still quaking in time with the steady pound...thud...pound...thud of the approaching footsteps.

“Well, Hagrid,” he said. “I have been greatly looking forward to meeting your brother.” Hagrid beamed, just as a new volley of acorns lodged themselves in the rim of Dumbledore’s hat.

“Grawp’s bin gettin’ loads better, Professor Dumbledore. He’s knows ter be gentle roun’ people now. Mostly.”

Dumbledore sighed. He hoped so.

Pop! echoed the boy. Pop! Pop! Pop! And he flung up his arms for emphasis.

His mother smiled: “come on now, Percy-love. Time for bed. Bed-time now.”

“I go bed,” he said obediently and slid off her lap, singing as he waddled to the door...
