So, he never got the chance to be redeemed. He never got a chance to see Harry grow up.
Remus found this extremely unfair. That made him more angry than sad when he stared into the empty casket.
And he never got to tell Sirius what he felt, because he could never work up the nerve. And now he was too late. Maybe he would continue whispering the words to the dark of the night like he had when he was just a schoolboy or when Sirius had been gone. And maybe now he was dead he could finally hear.
