He stood in the shadows, sweat trickling down his forehead, wand firmly clenched in hand.  He refused to run.  He would show those bastards that he was not a coward.  Setting his jaw, he stepped out to face the man stalking down the street.

It was impossible not to be frightened in the face of such rage.  Bloodshot eyes narrowed, pale face turned towards him, and footsteps quickened.

He swallowed and shouted an accusation, almost enjoying the shocked look he received.  A spell was cast.  Screams were heard.  Ignoring the pain in his finger, he thought, “Master will be proud.”

Remus turned away from Sirius’ inquisitive gaze.

“Nothing’s wrong.  I just feel a little … off.”

“… ‘Off’ …?  Remus, there has to be something wrong.  You’re usually more verbose.  See?  Verbose!  Even I’m more verbose than you right now.”  With humor, Sirius always had the right intentions, but the wrong timing.

Remus sighed.  Keeping something this large from James and Peter was terrible enough, but it was different with Sirius.  With Sirius, this secret literally gnawed at his insides, as if-

Sirius tentatively laid a hand on Remus’ arm.  “Tell me?  Please?”

Remus shook his head miserably.  “I can’t.”
