“Snape! Snape!”
Insolent boy.
“That’s Professor Snape, to you,” he managed to croak.
Damn. He would have much preferred to sound strong, at this moment. Cold, even.
“I’ll get you help,” Harry said, craning his neck, looking desperately for another teacher in the smoke that lingered after the battle.
“No!”
He grabbed Potter’s shirt in long fingers, spattered with blood.
“You will do no such thing!”
“But Professor, you’re -”
“You don’t owe me anything, Potter,” he spat.
He released his grip, and fell back onto the rubble. Already he felt lighter, freer.
And I don’t owe you a goddamn thing, James.
