And, the winner is, Ravenclaw, with 270, followed by Gryffindor with 170, Slytherin with 130, and Hufflepuff with 60.

New Challenge: Open and Closed

Write a hundred words on openness, closedness, things that open and close, what it means to be open or closed...How's that for wide, uh, open? Doors, eyes, windows, hearts, minds...if it's not obvious what's opening or closing, toss it in an A/N, okay?

Title: Waiting
Words: 100

Harry leaned against the inside of the door, sick with the dread of waiting, waiting, for Vernon to come home, to hear Petunia’s shrill explanation, to unlock, unlatch, and drag him out, out into the open where he would wish to be back in as much as, while he was in, he wished to be out, unbound.

He hadn’t meant to, of course, never had done. But the dishes were shattered, by him, somehow, and there it was. Harry’s fault, and unexplainable.

Every time that something, unnamed, broke open inside him, the closet closed smaller, and he wished he understood.

Maybe ten minutes now. He should go downstairs, away from this unboarded tiny window, the only one from which he could see the moon’s glow, almost full. He didn’t go. He stayed in the attic, watching, mesmerized by wind-blown clouds and cool air whishing in through the crack from bottom to right pane across the glass.

Five minutes, he supposed. He turned and stepped down to the basement, feeling the peculiar tension that pulled at his ankles and hipbones as the moment drew nearer.

The door opened to show his friends, transforming before him. He couldn’t turn down the offer.

Ready, steady, go!
