In some instances, users are experiencing the problem having their LJ client application close (shut off completely) when he/she has 'minimize on start' turned on and 'close to tray' turned off. Users are unable to change the setting because the dialog box would automatically minimize and causing the program to exit.
Here are the instructions on how to change the 'minimize on start' and 'minimize after submit' settings, you will need to modify the windows system registry:
WARNING: Alterating the Windows registry runs the risk of damaging your Windows operating system if done incorrectly. Attempt this alteration only if you are comfortable doing such tasks.
For WINDOWS 95/98 users:
1) Click on Start
2) Click on Run
3) In dialog box, type 'Regedit' and return.
4) Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
5) Click on SOFTWARE
6) Click on 'bradfitz.com'
7) Click on 'LiveJournal'
8) Click on your corresponding USERNAME:
'user_USERNAME'
9) Double click on 'minOnStart' and set the value to 0, click on OK.
10) Double click on 'closeToTray' is set the value to 1, click on OK.
11) Click on menu 'Registry' and select 'Exit'.
For WINDOWS NT/W2K users:
1) Click on Start
2) Click on Run
3) In dialog box, type 'Regedit' and return.
4) Click on menu 'Edit' and select 'Find'
5) Type in 'bradfitz.com'
This should take you to the registry tree 'HKEY_USERS'->'SystemID'->'SOFTWARE'
6) Click on the (+) next to 'bradfitz.com' to expand the tree.
7) Click on the (+) next to 'LiveJournal' to expand the tree.
8) Click on your corresponding USERNAME:
'user_USERNAME'
9) Double click on 'minOnStart' and set the value to 0, click on OK.
10) Double click on 'closeToTray' is set the value to 1, click on OK.
11) Click on menu 'Registry' and select 'Exit'.
