Well, yesterday afternoon, at exactly 4:30 pm, I had my first "orientation" at the gym I've started to attend. The personal trainer who acted as my advisor, Stefen, was incredibly cool. A genial big guy with a shaved head, gray goatee, a smile a mile wide, a hearty laugh and one of the friendliest, most helpful fitness trainers I've ever known. *grins crookedly* So yeah, kinda hot, but although he had like 200 lbs on me, not in the least bit threatening at all.
Anyways, he took my body fat & measurements to provide me with my starting point & we discussed where I wanted to go. Told him that I was a swimmer in high school, prior to blowing my ear drum, then became a cross-country runner...so lower body & cardio, I'm pretty well informed on - especially what works for me. However, due to my elbow injury when I was 20, been truly hesitant and overly careful with it, so my upper body is absolute nil. He proceeded to show me the first few machines I should work on (given that weights are gonna be ruled out until I get back into some semblance of shape & my arms are strong enough for them).
First up, the
Cybex Chest Press followed by the
Cybex Row, both seated machines. 2 sets of 12 reps on each, followed by a third rep on each machine once the 2nd reps become easy enough to move on. Tomorrow, I have a second orientation to finish up my basic instruction for my "total" upper body work out. Next week, I'll post more exact details regarding my full routine, once I've got it all down-pat :)
*sighs gustily* A'ight, guess I shouldn't put it off any longer. Below are my "Starting Stats." Tonight, I'll get a "Cold Start" picture as well, although I don't think I'll post that one up until I have a better looking second picture to compare it against XD
Week One, Day One - 03/12/07
Height: 5'9.5"
Weight: 148.2 lbs
Body Fat: 16.4%
Neck: 14"
Chest: 37"
Waist: 36"
Abs: 37"
Biceps: 11"
Thighs: 19"
Calves: 13.75"
Flexibility: 7.5 out of 10 (I can touch the floor but not quite flat-palm it)
Basically, I'm a stick... *sighs gustily* But that's the starting point. The current plan is to go six months, just focusing on a general work out to improve upper body strength, get back my lower body strength, slough off the softness & harden up nicely. At that point, I'll craft a more specific plan of attack on where exactly I want to go & how to get there. Ideally, I want to retain my overall slimness, get some pecs & flatten my stomach (and get some nice abs, of course...Vanity, thy name is Stormy), and definitely, definitely bulk up my upper body, particularly bulking up my toothpick arms!
Right, well, think I've blathered on enough for now.
Ciao for now.
