A New Beginning

So, yesterday, I finally did it. I took the first step. I joined a gym o.O; rozberk, wolfpaws and myself hit up a local gym that's not part of any chain, but relatively decent, particularly for the price and even compared to some of the "name brand" gyms...granted, it's closer to work than it is to home, but considering that I plan on a work-week schedule for now, it works for me.

Officially, it's time I started to not only get back into shape, but actually get into a shape that I can be happy with! The last few years...okay, closer to the last seven years, not that anyone's counting or anything...I've allowed myself to become lazy. I got spoiled by a rapid metabolism, being a runner and a swimmer, being someone who usually walked at least 5 miles daily in the normal course of things, and once I took a regular desk job as an editor, it all began sliding downhill from there. Well, my 32nd birthday is right around the corner, and it's way past time that I started to make up for lost ground. Definitely not getting any younger & definitely not getting any prettier, so definitely time to do something to improve my physicality & ease a bit of my self-loathing at how dumpy I've let myself become.

Tomorrow, at 4:30pm (after work), I have my orientation at the gym. Right now, the plan is to start going three days a week, M-W-F, and start a general fitness routine - shedding body fat, increasing lean muscle, working on cardio & stamina. I'll set up a plan of attack with the fitness coach tomorrow, but I'm figuring that for at least three months, that will be my primary focus. Once I've quit smoking, improved diet & gotten back into the habit of hitting the gym regularly, then it will change to a more bulking process while maintaining & improving my flexibility (still fairly limber for an out-of-shape guy, but considering I used to be able to do tricks that'd make most gay guys green with envy -or- want to get to know me a LOT better, might as well go for the gusto!).

Set a new tag for myself, Fitness, to track my progress. Will get a "Current" picture of myself, with pertinent stats and details, and post them tomorrow evening. From there, will make regular progress reports here as a way of tracking my progress. I used to be dead sexy, if a bit too skinny, but now that I can actually gain some weight, might as well make the best of it ;)

Oh...as a basis for where I used to be? At 18, I was 5'9" and weighed 108 lbs (crosscountry runner) with a 27" waist. At 21, when I got out of the military, I was 5'9.5" tall, weighed in at 135 lbs, with a 29" waist. For my current stats, you'll just have to wait 'til tomorrow ;)

Ciao for now!
