Soap!

So, I have another crusade... ish.. type thing. But I'm not as vocal about it. Forrealz. Even though it will probably improve the health of your body/save you money/help the environment.

:D

Basically, it involves substituting all your fancy hair shampoos conditioners sprays etc etc etc for----- SOAP! I think it's also called the "no poo" method if you want to look it up, but I prefer to call it "SOAP IS THE BEST THING EVARRR" method. All you do is use soap to wash your hair/body and resulting in much healthier hair and body!

Why should you switch to soap?
1. Commerically produced shampoos and soaps have lots of harmful ingredients in them, such as SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) and SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES). SLS is a known skin irritant, and both may cause potentially carcinogenic nitrates and dioxins to form in shampoos and cleansers that can enter the blood system in just one hair wash.
2. Using such harsh products causes your body to try and compensate by producing even more oils. You aren't supposed to have to wash your hair every day, though that's what many people do because they feel their hair feels greasy after one day.
3. Even commerical brand soaps aren't that great. The majority are made from sodium tallowate, which is essentially animal fat and can cause blackheads and acne.

So if you want to switch over, you have to have the right soap that won't dry out your skin or cause you even more problems! Aka one with very few, natural ingredients. My new soap brand is Olivia Care, which I bought online. The ingredients are olive oil, palm oil, palm kernalate, water, glycerine, and pure mandarin essential oil for fragrance. Only 6 ingredients!

If you decide to try this new method, there are some tips that you should follow.
1. When you first do this, your hair WILL feel waxy and tacky. This is the result of all the buildup from shampoos and conditioners and other hair products. Just keep going, and it will eventually go away.
2. Wash your hair by gently running the soap bar over your head and massaging your scalp thoroughly.
3. Rinse your hair with cold water to seal the cuticles on your hair to make it look better.
4. Do not brush/comb wet hair because wet hair is pretty delicate and pliable and can break easily.
5. I recommend you not dry or straighten your hair, because 1) hair free of products actually dries really fast and 2) without products coating your hair and essentially "protecting" it, you're going to fry your hair.

I can't say this will hold true for everyone, but in my personal experience, before this I had nice enough hair so long as I washed it every single day with shampoo and conditioner. If I didn't, it would look oily and greasy and make me feel extremely uncomfortable. After only one day! Even if I hadn't even done anything!

Anyways, when I first started this regime my hair was really gross and made me super uncomfortable because it was SO WAXY and I really wanted to stop. But I didn't, and now my hair is much nicer looking and feels pretty soft and doesn't look supremely gross and oily after a day of not showering :D Not to mention my showers have been reduced drastically and I've been saving water and helping the environment by not using shampoos, which are very unenvironmentally friendly considering the amount of time it takes to make them and such.

If you continue following this, you should be able to go several days without washing your hair and just get by with showering with only water and feel/look fine!

I'm sure there's a lot of stuff I didn't address, and a lot more specifics I didn't go into. If you have more questions this is where I got all my info. Hee!
