"I assure you, Mr. Alton, Gynecomastia is a perfectly common thing." Julie found herself saying for the fourteenth time. Richard Alton, still clinging to his newspaper and sitting next to his embarrassed looking son, looked as if he still didn't understand ( Read more... )

Wilson was heading for the hospital. He was late, not entirely unusual on the nights Chase stayed over and was trying to make up time as he sped along the highway like a bat out of hell.

Calmly weaving in and out of traffic, the oncologist frowned when he heard his cell phone go off. Having MegaPager go off was one thing, cell phone was something different.

Setting his coffee cup down in the holder, Wilson turned down the stereo and reached for the his cell. Since he needed his eyes up and on the road as he shoehorned the BMW in between two large trucks, he didn't look to see who was calling.

"Wilson."

The ringing halted suddenly to be replaced by a familiar voice on the other end. Deep within the wheels of her mind, she had been hoping for an answering machine.
"Hi," she said lamely. She curled one of her tissues around her hand as she waited for a response.

The screeching of tires and whoosh of air she heard was Wilson making a rapid lateral movement to the far right side of the highway, parking the M3 on the shoulder so that he could carry on the conversation without risk of wraping himself up in a semi.

After a moment of quiet, the tick of flashers could be heard down the phone and then Wilson's voice.

"What do you need, Julie?" He wasn't cruel with the question but given her attitude towards him in their last couple of meetings, he was highly doubtful that this was a social call.

She nearly winced at his tone of voice. She chose her words carefully, concentrating on the leaves on the floor of the patio.

"I have a case I was hoping you might be able to look at," she continued softly, wondering what all the commotion on the other side was. She wondered if she had caught him at a bad time.

Dark eyebrows knitted together in a pensive expression and he drummed his fingers lightly on the steering wheel as he considered her request.

"All right, I should be at the hospital in the next twenty minutes. Come by my office and I'll take a look."
