She felt somewhat relieved at his answer.

"Thank you." she replied as sincerely as she could in her state, and flipped the phone shut with a plastic 'crack'.

The patio had emptied sufficiently since she sat at her bench not twenty minutes ago, but she was grateful. She felt the smallest provocation might send her over the edge, and she would prefer to be as alone as possible if that happened.
The manila folder that rested on her lap felt more like a 50 pound weight than a folder; the name marked clearly in neat type made all the difference. "Fiennes, Declan." She read it over and over again, as if it would change eventually. She felt a pang of guilt as she found herself wishing it were some other child.

The clouds had left the sky for the moment, and the sun shone on the stone pathway to the patio as she lifted herself off the bench and walked slowly to the glass door.

Clutching the folder in her long fingers, she passed through the busy hospital, waited for the elevator, made it up to the oncology wing, feeling slightly less nauseous with each step. Finally, she came to her destination; a tall glass door with the words 'Dr. James Wilson' etched prominently into the shiny surface. He hadn't arrived yet.

She fell into one of the chairs the hospital had littered about the hallways and waited, tearing a tissue to relieve her anxiety.
