Hadyn's dislocated shoulder they day before hadn't been the first time something like that had happened - one memorable occasion when Hadyn had been thirteen and was getting back at Jordan for probably being horrible, Jordan had ended up with a cracked rib - but it had been a while since their sparring had gotten that rough. And while Jordan hadn't said anything about it at the time, mostly because there hadn't been anything he could say without sounding hypocritical, there was something about it that was niggling at him. Yeah, he had gotten angry because Hadyn had been getting the best of him. He could admit that now, and could probably psychoanalyze the reasons why to any doctor's satisfaction. But Hadyn had also been...vascilating, Jordan supposed, between too alert and not at all alert. It was the sort of pattern Jordan had had himself, earlier that fall, and he knew what it had meant for him.
So he wondered how long it had been since his brother had gotten much sleep. But how did you even ask that? You didn't, at least you didn't when you were Novaks, so Jordan had wrapped Hadyn up, promised not to tell Elisha, and had sent him off to his apartment in Town so he could rest before pulling another all-nighter at the theatre.
As for himself, he'd announced his intentions to the two remaining Face Cards in the Hearts; he imagined that Blythe and Tunde would have told Mano by now, too. Quietly, his security duties were being deflected to the pair of Nines who'd managed the department before him - under his nominal supervision, of course - and Jordan found himself with time on his hands. It wasn't really time, though. He had work to do. The excuse for wandering over to Spade Castle was easy enough to come up with; all his cousins on both sides of his family were Spades. Even watching the Sixes, Sevens and Eights train was something he could spin. The cousin closest to him in age on the Novak side - Luka, after their grandfather - was a Six now, and Jordan could easily say he was just dropping by to see him. Or he could say they'd arranged to train together. But Jordan wasn't watching his cousin or the Sixes all that closely.
His eyes were on the Sevens.
