"Not as much drinking as Evan had planned. Definitely more eating, though. I can't escape Mama, after all."

...probably a few, actually. But how many from Canada? Surely not more than two, three tops.

Zoe doesn't manage to duck Natalia's baking - who would want to, really? - but later she comes by Seb's office with another treat, this one from one of the Town bakery.

"Happy returns?" She offers with a grin as she sits on the corner of his desk. "I thought Mama Natalia was going to hire a band."

"Wow, sweetie, you're fabulous." He grins, taking the cake from her gratefully. "Oh, Mama's been going crazy. Golden birthday and all that. I don't think she realizes I don't particularly care much, but I don't want to disillusion her. She's having fun."

"Your mama's crazy every year. It doesn't matter which birthday it is." Which was completely opposite of Charlotte, who'd commemorated Zoe's twenty-first with old love letters and a pair of earrings from her dead father.

"Has it been good, though?"

"Fairly good, yeah. I've gotten some excellent presents this year. Have I ever told you how much I like people in general, Zoe?" He grins up at her.

Tell your doctor I'm being good and staying off my feet, even on my best friend's birthday.
