Ah, April 16 in 2012. What a day to turn 24.
Chives didn't actually go to bed. He spent his Hour scribbling in his notes in anticipation. It's made sense of his paranoia, fixed him out of his funk and into a Proper State for celebrating his birthday. Because he's meant to be Happy today. The Numbers tell him so.
Which means the Spades will be having a Faintly Cheerful butler today. He will be humming his usual 'things are going well' repertoire of Western and Deck classics, not marking the day with anything more than a smile until his actual birth hour in the afternoon. Then, his duties will be absorbed into the Twos and Threes and he'll be--for once--heading out to the Hearts Castle to see Sean, the Clubs Castle to see Karin, and the Diamonds Castle to... stand near the kitchen a moment before moving on. From there, he'll go to help Ethan in his new home with whatever cleaning project the Upper Spade vaguely explained he needed assistance with. At which point, of course, he will promptly be throwing a Fit.
But until then, there will be a humming, contented butler bringing persons their tea. Come here and let him fix your tie. That would be the best present of all.
