It's occurred to Simon, of late, that it might be nice to have some extra cash to toss around.

It's not that he's really hurting for it, or anything, but who wouldn't want a bit of additional income if the opportunity presented itself? And there had been an ad in the paper, as he'd been idly scanning it on a Sunday morning, and he hadn't been able ( Read more... )

Diana's just getting ready for the day to start, so she's wiping down the bar when Simon enters. Hearing the door, she'll look up and smile at him. "Here a bit early today, aren't you, Simon?"

"Oh, yeah. Thought I'd get a head start." He grins. He does spend a substantial chunk of his free time here, but it's for the people, not the booze. He doesn't think he's ever actually been in here when it's empty--it's kind of disorienting. He glances around.

"No, actually, I, uh, saw your ad in the paper and I thought I'd check it out. You're looking for part-time bouncers?"

"Oh yeah?" She set the rag down and leaned on the bar, looking at him curiously.

"I mean, I am." And she's not hiding the speculative look she's giving him as he stands there. "...and I do believe you'd do." She'd seen him in the bar and he seemed sensible enough. That and he looked intimidating enough to be able to escort most out. "Just sometimes some of the guys get a little rowdy and me and Garrett," Garrett being the Heart who was there part time bartending with her, "are neither of us really made for bouncing folk who need to be convinced to take it outside."

Especially Deck folk where just about everyone knows something about fighting.

Simon is quite sensible when he wants to be, but he has been involved in his fair share of fights that needed to be taken outside--never in this bar, though, and he's sure he can break things up just as easily as he can dive into them.

"I know how that goes. I'm usually pretty good at spotting problems before they turn into problems, too, so...yeah, I can show people the door when they're disturbing the peace."

He folds his arms as she glances him over, doing his best Immovable Object impression.

She smiles at that, "so...when can you start?"

He grins back, not having expected to get the job on the spot. "Right away, I guess. Whenever you need me; I'm flexible."

"Hmmm...want to come back around eight and we'll see how things go?"

Kind of like a job test run before they settle on a formal schedule. Make sure they both feel like it'll work out, et cetera.

And she'll avoid making any speculative comments on his presumed flexibility.

"Sounds good to me." Of course, Simon shouldn't be hoping for an opportunity to show off the extent of his job qualifications, but he kind of is anyway.

It is probably for the best that the flexibility is not being commented-on. It'd just make the poor man blush.

He holds out a hand. "I'll see you at eight, then."

She nodded and accepted his hand with a smile and gave it a shake. "Don't be late," she said teasingly, "that takes points off."

Of course, if Simon were aware of her fondly exasperated tolerance for Garrett's idea of a "schedule", he'd understand how much she was teasing.

Though if he were punctual, it would be refreshing.

"I'm never late," he says, with mock indignation. This is...not entirely true, but he'll make an effort! He'd like to make a good impression, so at the very least, he won't be late on his first day. She'll be able to get at least a month's worth of strict punctuality out of him.

"All right. Eight o'clock sharp." He gives a little salute and heads out the door.
