Traditionen

So we were discussing "Traditionen (Traditions)" and had to explain it auf Deutsch, of course. And no one was hitting the bull's eye, of course. So the whole class wound up in a moment of blankness. The last answer was something about it happening every so often. I couldn't really hear the exact answer because it came from the Otherside (of the room). The teacher goes back to it and asks about the next world war. Would that be a tradition? And here is what I said, the words completely bypassing my brain.
"Only if Germany starts it."
And the class roars with laughter. And the teacher is giving me this look like he's completely stunned, either out of shock that I said something without being called on or that I say such a thing. But he realizes it was a joke and laughs, but he returns from the Otherside, as my friend in the class, who by the way hates German, gives me a high five.
And I'm trying to stop laughing, but I failed miserably. I needed a good laugh, especially with the week I've been having, and it was my own joke, you know? On the inside, though, I was melting in my seat. I was thinking there goes my grade for German. I just had to say that. I just had to give the girl a high five. I just had to laugh. He probably thinks it was intentional, now, but it wasn't. It just kind of popped out of my mouth.
And I didn't think I said it that loud, but it was a really good laugh. I needed it. Definately.
