ok wow. looong day.

back track to friday.
we went to los angeles to play a show at the echo curio. with pangea!, uggamugga!, the health club, black sparrow press, and cdxx. it was fun. i've wanted to visit the curio for a real long time! i like the space a lot. cdxx and black sparrow press were folk punk, and sometimes folk punk tires me out. so much yelling. heh. but i like it. and then we played and it was super good! everyone was so quiet! and the space was such a good size. and yes!! so good! and we sold a bunch of cassettes and our new 7"!! so it was cool. and then ugga mugga played and it was silly and he played lots of covers. but tristan made us play laundry time, so we made him play hard rock star. and he played some sweet covers. and then i wasn't so into the next band. i sat in the back and read night. i've read it before, and thought it would be a good book to read during a show. wrong. and then pangea! and it was sweet! they played 2 new songs too. so good! i got really warm cause i always refuse to take my sweater off. but i danced hard and i did not pass out. so i win. oh, and i did not pop a lung this time either. phwweeww.

so the show was fun. and then we went to get food with tristan and nick. nick went to spaceland to see anavan and mae shi and monotonix. ha. blah. we went to the bright spot. that's where we went with girl band when they played l'keg. it's really good food! especially at 2am!! i had a vegan bagel burger. it was on the special menu.

and then after we ate, rebecca and i drove back to thousand oaks. 3am. blah.

just a thought on the show. it was a benefit for a group called ERA YES. which i guess is a feminist collective. they were raising money to buy feminist lit for the monrovia library. that's cool. kind of an interesting thing to raise money for, but it's cool. but it was just funny that a friend of theirs, sean, who is awesome by the way, was the one who organized the event. and you know, it's just strange that the women in the group didn't organize the bands themselves. it's totally awesome to organize a benefit for a group, but it makes much more sense to me if the group organized it. especially for a women's group. having a dude book the bands. also, there could have been more women performing. there were actually 4 women that performed, in 3 of the bands, but i guess it could have been more. as a benefit for a feminist group..

anyway. today we played three shows.

we left thousand oaks kind of late, but we were heading back to santa barbara to play at the goleta earth day festival. we got stuck in traffic in ventura and called the guy organizing the music and told him we'd be late and he was able to work it out so we could play a little later. and we're fine, but when we passed carp, we got into a car accident. i didn't hit anyone, but there was a lot of stop and go traffic, and we got rear-ended. pretty hard. and got pushed into the car in front of us. i had never been in an accident before when i was driving. really weird. the kid that hit us was pretty young. he was going up to santa barbara to go shopping with a couple other of his dude friends. the car we tapped in front of us was a rental. two women and a man from DC have been in los angeles for a bit. they were going up to santa barbara to go shopping. neither of their cars were damaged. our back bumper is pretty bad. but i'm just glad we had the bumper. we can't open the trunk. i'll get an estimate on monday. i guess their insurance will pay for it. yah, they'll pay!

we finally made it to earth day. totally weird. there were families around and that was cool. it was really white though. there were people hula-hooping everyone. gross. there was some jammy rock band playing. blarg. but the band stopped and then they set up mics for us and we played some songs. it was really hard. it was windy and we couldn't hear anything and little kids were running around the whole time making noises. it was cool though. maybe it's good to play things we wouldn't normally play? sure. we finished and some people said they liked it. then we went to the food co-op booth and they gave me an almond butter, apple, strawberry sandwich. yum! and then we looking on the ground and there was paper confetti everywhere. earth day! yay! also, just to point out.. there's still crap floating around the ocean from floatopia. people are so dumb. oh, and to make the confetti ok, they had to also throw birdseed everywhere. ugh.

after us were these kids that played terrible music. they were 15. it was terrible. i don't understand. we left soon cause we were pretty tired. on the way we stopped at trader joe's to get juice. and then decided to go to lazy acres to get pizza. we thought maybe that would make us feel better. so we went there. i ended up getting a salad too. i felt better after i ate foods. we rested for like an hour, then we had to head out to the next show.

earlier in the day we were asked to play some songs at a student film premier thing at one of the university theater/lecture halls. the event was called GreenScreen. supposed to be short films about the environment. we waiting around a while, but finally played a few songs before the films. the films were cool. after we watched the films, we headed over to the mercury lounge for the 3rd show of the night.

i avoid bars at almost all cost. i have absolutely no use for them. but we were asked to open for this guy john craigie. i've heard a lot of good things about the merc. like it's not like other bars. it seemed cool. it was chill or whatever. they set up some mics for us. and then we waited. then we played. it was pretty empty when we played, but that's fine. and then john played and it was pretty good. he called himself a folk singer. he plays music. that's what he does. and i can see why he's able to do it. the songs are good and he's really good at talking to people in between his songs. it's interested to see how different people do music. and how they use certain types of spaces for performance. and it's different than what we do. i'm not sure what i'm thinking. but anyway, he played for a while. and he finally stopped. and then we left.

so tired. dropped rebecca off at her house then i went home. i'm currently listening to my last 5432fun show with moses campbell live. it was really fun. it sounds really good. i'll put it up on the internets before i go to bed.

tomorrow is sunday. you already know what sundays are like for me. they're my favorite.

i'm tired. i think my neck hurts a little but i'm not sure i want to complain about it. that kid will have enough to deal with.
