Fic: Thick as Thieves (7a/7) *last chap*

Notes: T as T’s coming to a close… *sigh* This one’s action packed. Full of drama and all that. Fluff at near end. I guess this ends here… Sorry if I took so long to finish this. I had to post this in parts since it didn't fit. This is, for the last time in this fic, for hellotrishahere . ^_^ Enjoy!

EDIT: ‘Miyobi’ is now ‘Myoubi’… That’s the right one… I’ll edit the previous ones when I feel like it… But it’s supposed to be ‘Myoubi’ no ‘Miyobi.’

MATSUMOTO KIRU

It’s been two days since Yabu was taken but still no signs. Miura didn’t show up too. Sigh. Nothing new came up. Yesterday, Sunday, I tried Miura’s house, his friends, and all other possible places he could go but of course I didn’t find him anywhere. It was hard. The Agency did its best but still nothing.

I entered the classroom. I took my seat. I didn’t even try to hide the worry on my face.

“Kiru-chan, what’s wrong?” Rei asked me.

“Kii, did something happen?” Eiko asked.

“Kiru? We’re here… You can tell us.” Saeko said.

I forced a smile and muttered I was okay but they didn’t have to have Myoubi and Miura’s power to know I was lying.

The bell rang. Classes were about to start.

“Kiru!”

I know that voice. I don’t know what I felt. I knew I had to hate the guy and keep him under my watch but all I did was look at him.

“What?” My tone was flat and cold.

Eiko sensed the hostility in my tone and said, “Classes are about to start. Whoever you are, leave.”

He sighed and went in our classroom. He pulled me out of the classroom. I heard my friends protest but I was quiet.  I don’t know why I even let the guy do this to me. I didn’t know him well but I did have to stalk him before so I knew him enough.

“What do you want?!” I nearly shouted when we were in the fire exit. “Why don’t I just shoot you here?”

“I can help you.”

“Like how you helped your mother take Yabu?!” I knew that wasn’t his fault but I couldn’t help but blame him. “Well, you did a very good job!”

“Kiru, stop!”

“Don’t call me by that name! You don’t even know me well enough, Miura!” I shouted.

“Fine. Matsumoto-san, I need your help.” He said.

“I thought you’re helping me and now you’re asking for my help?!” I was still shouting.

“You’re too noisy.” He said as he shook his head then led me to the rooftop.

I felt as if my guard was really down. It was off protocol to talk to him but now, I am. Well, technically, I’m screaming at him so I’m still not talking. So it’s okay, right?

“Okay! What is it?!” I was starting to lose my patience.

“Myoubi’s contact is planning a large scale attack…” He said.

“Well that’s your problem!” I knew I was being unreasonable but I couldn’t help it.

I turned and started to walk away. I knew this was wrong and very dangerous. The intel was new and I would have to submit this to the Agency. I would have to call them once out of sight.

“Kiru! She’s smuggling in parts to make a nuclear bomb.”

I looked back at him. “What?! Are you sure?”

“30% of the specks are here. I saw them myself.” He replied.

I still had my doubts on him but this was no joke. If the trade is going on, it would only be a matter of time till it would be assembled. Too many casualties. I can’t have the blood on my hands.

“I know you still have your doubts on me but I know you don’t wanna see a mushroom cloud on the skies of Tokyo, right?” He said. “Specks will be complete by Saturday. She requested that the show will start on Sunday… She wanted it as…”

“Her birthday gift for you?” I guessed.

He nodded. “I don’t like it! Not one bit! Kiru, you must help me!”

“Can’t you do anything?” I asked. An inside job would be risky but it’s the best I can think of right now.

“Myoubi says that if I do, Yabu’ll pay…” He muttered.

I couldn’t get my thoughts together. Should I help him? He seems to be a good guy trapped by the situation Myoubi put him in. But Myoubi is still his mother, what if this was bogus? But… something in me wants to help him. I feel as if there’s something in him that makes me trust him. I don’t know but I feel as if I’m not just gonna help him because it’s the only way to get my best friend back and stop the mass murder.

“Wait here while I make some calls.” I told him.

“Do you think your Agency will trust me?” He asked. “I am the son of Myoubi.”

I sighed. He was right. They wouldn’t trust him. But I needed the assistance.

“If we’re doing this, we’ll do it my way.” I said.

He nodded.

I dialed my father’s number. He was the only one I can talk to that I know will help me.

“Kiru?”

“Yes.”

“Why aren’t you in school?”

“Something came up.”

“More important than school?”

“Much.”

“We don’t have much time.” Miura muttered. I nodded.

“Is this a secure line?”

“Wait.” He must’ve been changing his phone’s configuration, and trying to keep our talk off book. “Okay.

“Dad, I’m with Miura right now-“

“Did he harm you?! Where are you?! Are you armed?!”

“Dad! Slow down! I’m okay…”

“Bring him in.”

“I can’t. That’s exactly what I wanted to talk about. Dad, Myoubi’s on the move.”

“Where did you get this intel?”

“From Miura. We’re gonna go in. I was hoping you can keep this under the radar.”

“Kiru, you know I can’t do that.”

“But dad, she’s working with a nuke right now.”

“A nuke?!”

“Yes.”

“Kiru, don’t you think we should bring the Agency in on this?”

“Dad, I have Miura. Do you think they’ll just let him go?”

“What are you planning?”

“I was thinking… This would be a sting operation…”

“You’re going rogue?”

“Yes.”

“Kiru, I can’t leave this to you.”

“Dad, please.”

“I’ll report this in thirty minutes. That should give you a heads up.”

“Thanks!”

“Kiru?”

“Yes?

“I don’t trust him.”

“Then trust me.

He sighed and he put the phone down.

“We have a green light.” I said to him.

We went down to the locker area and I opened my locker. I opened a little box on the side of my locker and entered a code on the keypad it hid. Miura was shocked when he saw the whole locker turn from a book compartment filled with notebooks and all kinds of stuff to a weapon cabinet.

“Where did all this come from?!” He almost shouted.

“Shh!” I hissed. “I am a top agent and I need these every once and a while. I never actually thought I’d use this stack.” I replied, referring to the guns, blades, knives and some gadgets I carry with me on missions.

“Oh… I’m kinda just a rookie here so cut me some slack.” He returned.

“You do know how to aim, right?” I asked.

“In… games?”

Facepalm. This is gonna be tough.

“Okay, you take this.” I gave him a gun and he held it awkwardly. I shook my head in disbelief. “You wouldn’t have to use it. It’s just for precautionary measures.”

Once I collected my stuff, I led him to the janitors’ room.

“What are we doing here?” He asked.

“Easy exit.” I explained.

“Huh?”

He understood better when I opened the door to reveal a hole to slide in. We slid in and we ended up on the back of the school building.

“Wow. How come no one saw this before?” He asked.

“Government property.” I replied.

Beep.

I checked my official agent phone and I read my father’s message.

‘I’m sending Ichihara to help you out. She’ll be working in our house. Keep Miura on a tight leash. It’s your game. Your call. You have twenty minutes left before I inform the government.’

“We have to go.” I said to him.

“Okay.” He replied. “Come with me.”

He started to walk to the streets. I decided to startle him a bit. I clicked a button from my palmtop and a black expedition suddenly crossed his path, stopping right in front of him. He took a few steps back and I laughed.

“That wasn’t funny!” He retorted.

I continued to chuckle. “You should’ve seen your face!”

MIURA HARUMA

I couldn’t help but smile as Kiru laughed at me. She had this great smile that lit up her face. She could be some great and legendary agent in the Agency but she’s still that immature and childish girl I can’t help but enjoy being with.

She hopped in the car at the driver’s seat and I took the seat beside her.

“Wait, do you even have a license?” I asked.

“I don’t need one.” She replied with a cute little smile. “The car’s in some kind of ‘auto-pilot’.

“Good morning, Agent Kiru.”

The car started talking, startling me. She laughed at me again. I pouted. But I looked away momentarily.

Kawaii! Huh? Wait. No. Did I just say she’s cute? B- but…

“Take me to my house.” She said to the car. I think it was a GPS thing. But it was so high-end.

The car started to move and she clicked some buttons and her seat rotated and she was suddenly facing back. The seats started to move some more and a divider was suddenly lifted on the back, covering her.

“Hey, what are you doing?” I asked.

“Dressing up. You didn’t expect me to go around in my school uniform, did you?” She replied.

After a few more seconds, the divider was down again and she was in the same black outfit I saw her wear on the train to Chiba.

She threw some clothes to me and said, “You should get changed too. These are Yabu’s. I think you’re about the same size.”

I nodded and the chair I was sitting on made a 180 degree turn and I was at the back and the divider was up again. I wore Yabu’s clothes and it did fit me. But it’s quite tight. Well, Yabu’s a bit on the thin side. Too thin.

“I’m done.” I said.

The divider went down and in a matter of a few seconds, the car looked like a commoner’s car except for…

“Ichihara?”

“Hai!”

I looked at the GPS and it was suddenly a screen. A girl was looking at us; she was probably the same age as us.

“Ichihara will be working with us. She’ll be our off site assistant.” She explained.

“Hey there, Miura.” She said.

“Uh, hi.” I replied awkwardly.

“Kiru, are you sure you know what you’re doing?”

“We don’t have a choice, Ichi.” She replied, looking every once in a while at me.

We both didn’t have a choice. I didn’t want this to happen. Myoubi has to be stopped.

“Kiru,” Ichihara said. “You don’t have to pass by here. I got everything. I can access everything from here.”

She nodded then turned to me. “It’s your call. Where to?”

“Kizuma Towers.” I said.

The car turned a hard right and we headed for the direction of the location I gave.

“Why there?” Kiru asked me.

“The base is there.” I explained.

“Ichihara?”

“Kiru, there’s something fishy going on in that building. It’s no ordinary building. It’s levels are only five but Its basement levels reach fifteen floors. Not much residents in there though. It’s not selling much.”

She nodded. “All this time, it was just there?!” She said exasperatedly.

“Guess so.” Ichihara replied.

“Here. Take this.” Kiru handed me a white object with a size of a pea.

“What’s that?” I asked.

“It’s for communication purposes.” She replied. “Just put it in your ear.”

She demonstrated how to do it properly and I copied her.

“Copy?” She said as she faced Ichihara.

“Crystal.” She replied through what they call ‘com.’

“Copy?” I said.

“Loud and clear.”

Looks like I have a lot to learn. From terms to actual fighting to sneaking and gun firing. This is going to be a long day for a rookie like me.

“Ichi, have you scanned the area?”

“I did.” She replied. “For a low rise residential building, it has too many cameras. Three elevator shafts to the east end and the stairs on the west. Service elevator on the north wing. Fire exits are on all four corners of the building.”

“How bout underground?”

“No data.”

She sighed. “Haru-kun? Can I call you that?”

“Yeah.”

Another of her smiles made her face bloom. She looked away, hiding a blush? No way. I’m too thick to think that!

“Anyway,” She said, still looking at the window beside her. “Have you been down there? At WIT’s base?”

“Yes… A couple of times. I’m familiar with the place. I know where we have to go.”

“Good. We’ll have to rely on your knowledge. Ichi can’t hack into their system without a company laptop.”

“Myoubi gave a laptop. It’s in my room.”

“Okay. We might be able to access everything from there.” Ichihara said.

Kiru and I were briefed more on the schematics of the above ground levels of Kizuma Towers. After a few minutes, we arrived on the location.

“Kii, we can enter through here.” I said pointing to a side door.

“What did you just call me?”
