At least of sorts. Yesterday I headed out for a ride, knowing I could easily reach 4000 miles YTD by the time I got back. I headed east, having to go down to 665 to cross the Scioto River. This took me past a friend's (or a relative-in-law of Faith) and she was mowing her lawn. I stopped and we chatted a bit before I headed out again. I was planning to head south, but with the wind I decided against that. I ended up with 33 miles and 4007 YTD.
Today the Licking Co. group went to Millersport, and I got another 36 in. It had been quite a while since I was there, or at least to Home Town Hot Dogs. XOBA stayed in M-port in July, but we went to the Island House for dinner, and headed to Hebron for breakfast the next day. Too bad, as Kim is always a delight to be around. She offered us some pumpkin roll this morning, gratis. It was pretty good.
I didn't really have any set mileage goal this year, but have already exceeded my last year total. I may or may not make 5000. It depends on the weather and what else we get into. There's a camping trip this weekend near Butler which should add 75-80 miles, and I plan to take my bike when we go to the Smoky Mountains later this month. That may not be much mileage, as it is very hilly (duh) and I shouldn't be gone too long and leave Faith alone - shopping!
The last time I was down there was in '94. I took a mountain bike, which had the gearing, but I didn't have the legs for much climbing. Plus, it was pretty heavy. My carbon fiber Trek is great for climbing, when I'm up to it, which is most of the time. I would like to ride out to Cade's Cove. That road is very rolly. I might consider taking the tandem along in case we want to ride around the cove. I might have trouble talking her into that. The road through there wasn't paved the last time I was there.
