Here's a three-page comics I did. It took me less than 10 minutes to write this. It took me a week to render the artwork. That is the bane of the comics: it is time-consuming. But I'd rather do comics than go to coffee places or the malls and rant about politics, high prices, consumerism and ego-appreciation.
I am tired of those things.
So, comics are my therapy and one of the joys of my life.
So, the Philippine Independence Day is this Monday. I thought this comics is timely enough to ask you what is independence? The ability to have purchasing power while others do not even afford a piece of candy? Is it the day we celebrate of being free from a being a colony only to be ingratiated in another form of imperialism, like economic subjugation? Or is it the ability to do something to change the situation we are in?
I didn't even pencil this. I just went straight for the jugular and rendered it directly with pen and ink.
This happened last week when there was a freak storm and Manila was drenched and caked with sludge.
I was stuck in traffic in Makati. That is Manila's financial dsitrict with towering glass, concretes and lights.
I was stuck in the cab and I saw this scene.
I was mesmerized.
