We watched Hunger Games on Saturday so enough time has passed that I don't feel unduly influenced by the kind of giddiness a decent movie-going experience can give me. Last weekend I enjoyed a lovely feast of storytelling. Saw a great movie (X-Men: First Class), watched an excellent tv show (The Game of Thrones on HBO), and plowed through an addictive trilogy (Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins). It was good! Which hasn't happened in a long, looong time. (Last good movie I saw in a theater was Up, to give you an indication.) Inception is all about dreamworlds, which usually is the sort of thing I don't enjoy that much. The surreal creeps me out. I wasn't impressed. Or, I should say the filming was well done but it was in support of a tired story and a thoroughly unlikable main character. ( spoilers under the cut )

I have experienced IMAX!! Or, well I've seen IMAX films before, but only the science ones, actually designed for the IMAX screen, where things are pretty static as you swoop over arctic ice or into a volcano. Never an actual, story-telling, dialogue-happening, movie. Until now.

So I just saw the movie "Taken", wherein Liam Neeson plays a daddy out to save his little girl. If you turn your brain off, it does its job as an action movie. It's when I started thinking that the problems started piling up. ( major spoilers )
