I started off today getting up early to go out in the field. It was 21 degrees F out...boo. I've gone out for geology in colder (say -11) but I still was not thrilled. It ended up being not so bad though. We went over past the levee of the Kansas River to look at some new soil formation. There was a flood in 1993 that deposited sands on the floodplain and there is already quite a bit of soil formation there from the past 14 years. We dug a couple trenches, and I managed to break a bucket right away. But I found a cool red velvet mite, so that was good. In addition to looking at the soil horizons we were looking for critters for my advisors lab. Mostly worms, but grubs and whatnot, too. I got pretty sandy.
After that I went to the Underground for some early lunch before finishing up my sequence strat project. I got a ChickFilA sandwich and a big sugar cookie. I haven't had many ChickFilA sandwiches, because they never impressed me a great deal, but today's was very good. It was hot and fresh as the cafeteria was rather busy. The cookie was good, though majorly greasy. I finished up my strat project mostly - the top section had been bugging me for hours, and I hate putting down what I don't feel good about, but I took a stab at it. It was obvious in the end, and I should have gone with my first instincts, but however. After class I met my friend Lindsay's sister and nephew and received some Idaho potatoes. I was going to make lomo saltado tonight, but it makes leftovers and I'm going away for a little bit. This weekend I'll have to cook some up.
After that I went and talked with my advisor for a bit about our trip tomorrow to Oklahoma City for my project and other random things. I came home early to nap and woke up at 8 or so and had dinner and watched a bit of TV with my roommate Julie. I saw the end half of Transformers, which was interesting. And now I am here.
I am going to put in the rest of my interlibrary loan requests - I was rejected one so far, the one I wanted most, and received another, which was also high on my list. I have a feeling many others will be rejected, as they are theses, and apparently U of Ark doesn't like sharing those. I may try an contact someone and see if I can somehow get around that. I think they are starting to make PDFs of theses, but the ones I want are not so new. Eh. I still have to get caught up on the materials I have so far.
