So i've noticed i'm woefully behind the tech curve on my home theatre system. normally this is not a problem as i was quite contenct with my workhorse 27" non-flat screen tv. i'd worked out quite the lil system out of bargain parts. I'd even worked my xbox 360 in there with s-video and optical audio.
Now however, the times have changed. Jen and I purchased a nifty Dynex 32" HD flatscreen from bestbuy on black friday with a plethora of giftcards we had got for out wedding. nothing special: 720p, decent resolution, nice black/white contrast. This TV comes with 2 HDMI inputs. here's my question: I wanna use said inputs but am a bit confused as to how. As i read it, HDMI moves both HD video and 8-channel audio. but my tv only has two (not very impressive) speakers, so what's the point of sending it 7.1 audio?? my Xbox 360 has an HDMI output, as does the DVD player i'm looking at...
So where do i start? i have a JVC receiver going to a 5.1 speaker system. but it does NOT have HDMI input. if i run HDMI from the xbox to the tv, how do i get audio? can i split the signal so that the HD video goes tot he tv and the audio goes to the reciever?
any help would be great...
