I wish I could blog like I think in the shower. It's never really a coherent train of thought, but it all makes perfect sense. But then again everything seems to make sense in my head before it comes out of my mouth. Plus I seem to be most insightful when I think to myself, but get a little more caught up in the rush of the world when I sit down to write.
The other day in class we were talking about writing as a form of therapy and health enhancement. I believe this is true. I think there are different types of writing. The reason I'm writing this blog is so that I don't forget any of my experiences. Even if I don't write about everything at least I'll have some cues to jumpstart my memory.
Last week we went to see Chicago the musical. It was fantastic! We got half price tickets that we bought the day of the show. We almost missed it though! We got off the tube on the wrong side of town courtesy of the ticket lady's directions and then rode a bus to the other side of town. Then we ran (in heels!) across London and made it just a few minutes late. Whew!
Friday we went back to Brighton. How I love Brighton. It's a lot more laid back and less crowded than London. Much more relaxing. The beach is nice (when there aren't naked people). Last weekend when we went to Brighton we made a friend named Alina...well this time in Brighton she let us stay in her flat! It was so amazing to be able to do that. She was so sweet and gracious. Her birthday is August 4th so we plan to go visit for her birthday! Hopefully she will be able to come to America one day and we can return the favor.
I can't figure out why the people that work on trains don't know what the tickets are supposed to look like. We got first class train passes with our program so we always sit in first class and EVERY time people say to us, "You know you're in first class right? Can we check your tickets? We think you're lying." Ok, well they pretty much imply the last statement. And they always ask, "Are you sure this is first class?" Why don't they know what the ticket looks like?!
Last night we went back to eat at the Texas Embassy. They had live music and this guy from New Zealand was playing country. For a moment all my insecurities about being so far from home disappeared. I realized that Texas really wasn't all that bad because it was still my home. I miss my home.
Here are the things I miss: (besides the obvious family and friends)
-unlimited soft drink refills
-american food (such as cheese fries and buffalo wings)
-free public restrooms
-nice people
-cheap things
-routine
-being able to cook
I'm sure I'll continue to add to the list so stay tuned.
Tomorrow we are going to Stonehenge and this weekend we are going to Paris. Tough life ;)
