Disclaimer: I don't own Lost, but I wish I did so something like this could be possible.
Author's Notes: For astra2104 and fosfomifira, former lostsquee Luau queens, who requested "ice" and "visual inspiration," respectively. This is a kind of "illustrated fic" for which I made a matching wallpaper. Tis a little out-of-season right now, but I hope you girls like this!
Also, thanks to invisiblelove for being my beta last-minute. ♥ ILU!

Every year, two weeks before Christmas, Charlie and Claire go hunting for a Christmas tree.

Every year, Claire gets Aaron bundled up in his winter jacket, clips his mitts to his sleeves and pulls his hat snugly down over his ears.

Every year, Charlie rummages around the basement looking for their hand saw. Once found, he grabs a large sports bag that hangs on a nail on the wall and heads upstairs with the bag slung over his shoulder and the saw gripped firmly in his hand.

They meet on the porch, and all together, Charlie, Claire and Aaron walk to the pond behind their English cottage.

Fortunately, the walk to the pond is short, as Aaron can barely contain his excitement. When they arrive, Charlie sets down the bag that was hanging from his shoulders, unzips it, and takes out three sets of ice skates. He laces his own up first and heads out on the frozen pond, checking the thickness of the ice to make sure it is safe to skate on. Once the pond gets the “OK,” Charlie skates back to the edge where Aaron is waiting for Daddy help him put on his skates. Charlie does so with a big grin on his face, laughing and joking with his boy as Claire laces up her own pair. Once everyone is ready, Charlie and Claire each grab hold one of their son’s hands and set out on the glassy pond.

Aaron is a bit shaky on his feet, but his skating improves every year. Claire admires this in her son as her own skating abilities remain hopelessly basic and stagnant. Charlie, however, grew up in a house not far from here and loves to show off the fact that he’s been ice skating since he was four by whizzing past the two of them in a figure eight.
Eventually Aaron gets bored with skating and sits off to the side to build a snowman. Charlie and Claire stay on the ice, their hands clasped together tightly, gliding around the pond. Charlie tries to lift Claire at the hips to see if they can do a figure skating move, but Claire just squirms out of his grasp, giggling. She tries to get him back by making him fall (and often succeeds).

Every year, the Christmas tree excursion ends up never really being about the tree at all.
