So.....I am a total HP fandom newb. I mean, I didn't even want to read the books when I first heard about them....I resisted it real hard, but then I saw the first movie and loved it so much that I read the first book. I loved that one so much that I read the other 4 that were out at the time. From there......things settled a bit and I found myself unable to complete the series, curious as I was to discover it's end.
Then comes along
Tavi_b She gets me all excited about this conference, a Harry Potter conference called Azkatraz that's gonna be held in SF. She gets me all riled up and now, I'm dying to finish the series and gobble up book 6 in two days of straight reading. Then, I stuff my nose into book 7 and don't come up for air the entire trip up to SF, for those of you who don't live in LA (or don't know how far apart they are) that was about 6.5 hours of reading. And of course, I'm a bit disappointed at this point as I've only finished about half the book and I'm at the cusp of a Potter-con. I just know it's gonna be filled with spoilers. After all, most of these people finished book 7 years ago when it came out. But, I just resolve myself to the fact and march on.
We get to the conference and I'm all set to spend a good 7 hours arresting people as an Auror for the event.
From there....a bit of tragedy ensues and I end up kicked from the con and stripped of my title. (I know, tear, right? And, in my defense, it was totally not my fault. Honest. I mean....sure I missed the fine print but the volunteer chairperson missed it too so can I really be faulted for that one?) Well, fortunately this only lasts a few hours and now, I'm all set for the con and as a result of this hiccup (well, it was more of a really noxious burp that fills the back of your throat with an acidic burn which lasts for a while after) I figure "What the hell....I already volunteered for a bit and if this is the thanks that I get for trying to be overly helpful and going above and beyond my agreed upon duties then I'm just going to be selfish and spend the rest of the con enjoying myself." So, I join
Tavi_b at her panels, I attend some panels on my own, and I meet a ton of really cool people.....played super awesome HP versions of Mafia/Werewolf and Apples to Apples and then, OMG, so exciting, I got a gorgeous drawing by Lizardspots of Hermione and Ginny snogging under the mistletoe. Lol...Nargles.
So, all in all, the trip was totally worth it. It was great....I loved it. And, as a result of this awesome trip of awesomeness I have decided to start writing femme slash because there are some pairings that I am DYING to see and rather than go searching, maybe fruitlessly for them, I figure I might as well make some of my own and share them with anyone else who shares my passions for them.
