Für den Winterschlaf!

Dec 01, 2010 21:31

It's freaking cold, and I'm not amused. Yesterday I spent five minutes in front of the German Philology Institute searching for my bike. I couldn't identify it because the snow made every bike look alike. *headdesk* I don't like snow. I don't like the cold. I don't like the weather forecast telling me how freaking cold it will get tomorrow.

On to other news ... I really shouldn't start a new meme the weekend I'm out of town and when I have an exam the next week. It only results and missed days from the meme *whistles* Anyway, on with the days:

Day 02 - A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about
"Wie der Soldat das Grammofon repariert" by Sasa Stanisic ... to be honest, I only have the book cover left because my ex-boyfriend gave the book itself never back and I'm not exactly inclined to ask for it, but still -- the book is amazing. It's about a little boy growing up in Bosnia, the war there, the escape and Germany as the new home. Yet it's so much more: stories inside stories, buildings playing instruments, what Tito would say, surviving bomb attacks, the first love ... and everything told with so much honesty, intelligence and wit it makes me want to buy the paperback just to have it again.

Day 03 - The best book you’ve read in the last 12 months
Puh ... er ... let me take a look at my book shelves -- So, okay, I will cheat a bit, but this is my meme so live with it. "Romanticism: An Anthology", edited by Duncan Wu. I can't help it, I like Romanticism, and I like poetry. However, the most awesome thing about this book are the biographies of the different authors. Better than any movie, really. Lord Byron alone should get his own hall of fame (he more or less has: places and streets are named after him in Greece; keep in mind that he never actually took part in the Greek fight for freedom, he died too early for that, but alas ... ).

Day 04 - Your favorite book or series ever
Gosh, this is hard ... I don't really have a favorite to be honest. I like the "Mortal Instruments Trilogy Cycle" by Cassandra Clare. I love the characters, every single one of them, I love the storyline, the h/c, the daddy!issues ... she basically caters to all of my favorite kinks. I'm really happy that she decided there are more stories to be told in that universe. ♥

Day 05 - A book or series you hate
Hate is such a strong word ... I prefer 'strong dislike' for any "Dirk Pitt"-book by Clive Cussler. His hero is basically a Gary Stue - perfect in any way imaginable. He's extremely good-looking, will blend you with his awesomness, has just to take a look at a woman for her to lose her clothes, knows it all and is all around liked. I felt sick reading the first hundred pages, then I threw the book away. It doesn't help that Dirk is a diver and most of the books play underwater ... irks.

Day 06 - Favorite book of your favorite series OR your favorite book of all time
Déjà vu ... I can't really see the difference to day 4, so read that instead. (Because, even if the or means I have to pick the other one, I'm still going with the Mortal Instruments.)

an den wettergott, need no dictionary, *möööööp*, bücher machen das leben reicher, it's meme!time
